Delta's Veteran Services, staffed by many who are veterans themselves, will help you secure financial aid, academic support, family assistance and more. We want to make sure you have the resources to achieve your dreams by giving you support along the way.

Educational Benefit eligibility

Below is a list of benefits so you can see where you fit in, along with links for more info. When you're ready to apply for your benefits, complete the Veteran Online Application at . 

Active Duty Montgomery GI Bill庐 - Chapter 30

At least two years on active duty, and contributed $1200 to your GI Bill fund, and were honorably discharged.

Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) - Chapter 31

Also known as the VetSuccess program. Assists veterans with service-connected disabilities to prepare for, find and keep suitable jobs. For veterans with service-connected disabilities so severe that they cannot immediately consider work, VetSuccess offers services to improve their ability to live as independently as possible. Veterans are eligible if they:

  1. Have received, or will receive, a discharge that is other than dishonorable;
  2. Have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10%, or a memorandum rating of 20% or more from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA);
  3. Apply for Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) VetSuccess services.

Post 9/11 GI Bill庐 - Chapter 33

At least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or be discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill庐. The Post-9/11 GI Bill庐 became effective for training on, or after August 1, 2009.

IMPORTANT - If you are currently receiving benefits under Chapter 30, 1606 or 1607 and you apply on vets.gov, you are required to make a decision that is irrevocable (cannot be changed) to give up one of the other programs you are eligible for.

However, if you completely exhaust your entitlement under your current chapter before the effective date of your Chapter 33 election, you may receive up to 12 additional months of benefits under Chapter 33. Choose your effective date for Chapter 33 carefully. Let the Delta Veteran Services Office know that you submitted an application on vets.gov.

Survivors' or Dependents' Educational Benefits

Child (18-26 years) or spouse of a veteran determined to be 100% disabled or deceased due to military related injuries. 

Reservists/National Guard - Chapter 1606

You must have a six-year obligation to serve in the Reserves or Guard and be currently in good standing with your unit.

Veteran Student checklist

Here it is, the Veteran Student Checklist. As you follow the steps, let us know if you need anything. 

Apply for benefits
  • Visit  to apply for benefits using  (Veteran Online Application).
  • Wait 6鈥8 weeks for your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from VA.
  • Students using Chapter 31 benefits will not need a COE. But you will need a contract (1905) from your vocational rehabilitation counselor.

Create your admissions account and complete an application.
All new students will need to create an account and complete a Delta admissions application. When creating your account be sure to use a personal email address where you will have future access.

  • Select the correct student type:
  • Select 鈥淣ew Student鈥 if you have never attended college.   
  • Select 鈥淩eturning Student鈥 if you attended Delta previously.
  • Select 鈥淭ransfer Student鈥 if you attended another institution previously.

  • Once you鈥檝e been accepted, you鈥檒l receive an email from accounts@delta.edu asking you to activate your 好色先生TV account. 
  • Follow the prompts and activate your account.
Request Joint Service Transcripts
  • If you are Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, have your transcripts sent to Delta using the system.
  • If you are Air Force, use to send your transcript to Delta.
Meet with an academic advisor
  • Schedule an appointment with an advisor by calling 989-686-9330 or emailing advising@delta.edu.
  • Visit Advising for more information about their services.
Register and pay for classes 
  • Federal Tuition Assistance: See unit Education Service Officer

  • 33 鈥 If less than 100%, difference must be paid by student prior to payment deadline or classes will be dropped.
  • Chapters 30, 35, and 1606 are reimbursement programs and require tuition and fees to be paid prior to payment deadline.

The VA will ONLY pay for classes that are part of your course of study. To prevent delays in payment or incurring debt from the VA, verify your courses with an advisor.

In situations where a class may not be in your course of study, consult with the Veteran Services Office for proper protocol.

Necessary forms and attendance verification: 

The Basic Certification Request Form (BCRF) must be completed and turned in to the Veterans Services Office (A008) every semester to activate benefits. If this form is not turned in to our office by payment deadline, your classes will be dropped. 

Chapters 30 and 1606 require veterans to verify attendance on a monthly basis to initiate monthly deposit. Attendance verification can be done by calling 1-877-823-2378 or on the web at (WAVE) on the last calendar day of the month. Chapters 33, 35, and 31 do NOT have to verify at the end of each month.

SUCCESS TIP:  Take it slow and communicate with your Veteran Services team in the Student Veteran Center.
